There seems to be this guy in the house I live in:
12.1 atlantic
What should I do? Try to contact the guy? Attend the meeting on 16th (I would not understand much…)?

12.1 is Cyrus' router. I would give it a try to contact him, he's a nice guy

We are a free network not only by freedom of opinion or participation but also by freedom of choosing your favorite language. I tell you if you ask me your questions in English at the meeting I will answer them in English. Those meetings are taking place not only for talking nerdy and show cool hardware to each other but also to answer exactly the questions of the newbies, of you.

Although I have registered the 12.1 my router was not online for a few weeks now and it also was not called atlantic.
I only had some test routers online for a few days but they were assigned 6.x addresses and weren't called atlantic either also they were not connected to my main antenna here.

So I'm pretty sure you did not receive any of my non-existent signals

Could you tell us in which street (and maybe also the house number) you are living so that we can find the right freifunk neighbour?

what do you mean?

the nodes next to your place are in a distance of 250 m. there is the possiblity that you receive them, especially 12.5, whose name is atlantic, and 12.3, named natz. nevertheless it might be you need a better antenna.

As for the antenna, I have got one for 2,4 GHz. Is it the one I need? Do you think that it will be helpful to contact atlantic and discuss it? I live on the first floor so perhaps need to get the antenna to the roof first…

welcome to freifunk. it is a good idea to contact atlantic, his name is "komnick". maybe a standard-antenna is good enough already. see you on 16th!

2.4 GHz is correct. but there are several types of antennas, do you know which one you have or describe it if you don't know the name? and yes, roof is always helpful... if you got access to it but remember: you have to place the router in direct proximity to the antenna so you will have to provide power to the roof and an ethernet cable from the router to your apartment wouldn't be wrong, neither.

@tmk: jetzt bin ich verwirrt, da steht in der nodesverwaltung, adolar wär der verwalter, aber in den kontaktdaten steht ein peter? peter ist komnick? die frage steht: besser an den verwalter oder an den besitzer wenden?

i installed node 12.5 some time ago together with mister komnick, the brother of a friend of mine. it seems, that adolar took the time to administrate the node together with mister komnick. so it is all correct and talking to mister komnick is okay.

alright then. i suppose the panel antenna is more suitable for your purpose as it's beam width is wider. it would be to narrow using the grid antenna and you would have to true it up carefully to one other node.
